The 2015 Major League Baseball Draft will take place, this evening, at 6pm CDT, and in doing so the future of the game of Baseball will take center stage!
This is only the SECOND draft of the calendar year, with the NBA coming after their finals are completed, and the NHL is the same.
Major League Baseball, is the only league that presents a draft during their season, because most, if not all, those eligible are still playing ball in school or other avenues.
The Texas Collegiate League, which was established in 2004, had their first player drafted just a matter of days of the league getting started. Hunter Pence from UTA, and was playing for the Highland Park Blue Sox, was drafted by the Houston Astros, and was soon on his way to Rookie League ball, after he got the call.
Others from this league have made it to the SHOW as well, including:
Hunter Pence – Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants
Clay Buchholz – Boston Red Sox
Chris Davis – Baltimore Orioles
Adam Moore – Seattle Mariners
Brandon Belt – San Francisco Giants
Paul Goldschmidt – Arizona Diamondbacks
Todd Cunningham – Atlanta Braves
Tyler Collins—Detroit Tigers
Over 300 players have been drafted or picked up from the TCL since it started play, and since then—there have been plenty others who have moved from a small college or Junior College to a Division I or II school.
The league has its place and will continue to grow, especially with your support.
So good luck to all those who are being looked at, those that are being drafted, and those who still have the dream!
